RECENT EVENTS

In June,2015,Nandini Ramani was invited by the Sangeet Natak Akademi,New Delhi to present a segment during the Yog Parv-a Seminar on YOGA& Performing Arts, organized by the SNA in connection with the International Yoga Day initiated by the Prime Minister of India on June 21st.A talk on the Essence of Yoga-Dr.M.Jayaraman, Sangita & Yoga-Sumitra Vasudev and Natya & Yoga-Nandini Ramani were featured in the segment by Dr.V.Raghavan Centre which also had group singing by disciples of Vidushi R.Vedavall, who were part of the SNA training program on Pdams& Javalis, co-ordinated by the Centre in the past 5years.There was huge response on these presentations and the Group musical rendering was featured in four venues in two days of the festival ,attracting wide appreciation. The SNA honoured all the participants.

From April first week to middle of May,2015,Nandini Ramani was invited to give Lec-dems and workshop in California which was very well received. In May,2015, she visited the South Asian Studies and Language Centre at the University of Chicago where she met with the Director ,Mr.James Nye and some faculty members. Explaining the work of the Dr,V.Raghavan centre to the Director, Nandini Ramani interacted on the possibilities of support for ongoing projects of the centre, and sought the support of this department.

On February 9th,which marked the 30th Remembrance Day of T.Balasraswati ,Nandini Ramani presented “Natya Samaradhanam”-dance homage to her Guru.She presented a couple of rare Padams accompanied by Dr.Subhashini parthsarathy on Vocal and K.R.Venkatasubramaniam (mridangam). Smt.Priyadarsini Govind,Director,Kalakshetra Foundation presided over the function; Nandini Ramani honoured Veteran Dance exponent and teacher ,Smt.Indira Rajan on this occasion with acash award; Sri.K.Ramiah,Senior Associate of the Centre was the Guest of honour. **See write-up on this function in Sruti Magazine- June2015 issue by musician Mohan Santanam.

Brahmagana Sabha On 06-01-2015 Sushama Ranganathan’s dance recital. Nandini Ramani recital.

A programme featuring an unique dance thematic presentation on “King Shahji’s Dance Compositions”, was choreographed by Smt Nandini Ramani with Musicical inputs from Smt Madhavi Rajagopalan, Musicin and Musicologist. The dance presentation featured Smt Sushama Ranganathan, Revati Ramachandran, Srikala Bharat and Shobhana Balachandra. A publication containing the composition with musical notations compiled by Smt. Madhavi Rajagopalan (Published by GIRI Trading Agency) was released by veteran musician Sri.P.S.Narayanaswamy and he first copy was received by Dr.Sarskia Kersenboom, Prof. of Cultural Anthropology, University of Amsterdam, herself a senior student of Smt.Nandini Ramani on 20.11.2014 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai.

Dr.V. Raghavan Centre for Performing Arts, in association with Sangeet Natak Akademi, N.Delhi, conducted a seminar and live presentation to commemorate the Centenary celebrations of Vidushi T. Mukta on 9th and 10th September 2014 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai. The festival had three sessios consisting of the Inauguration, Morning Seminar on Padams and Javalis and evening performances on Carnatic vocal music and Bharatanatyam. Eminent personalities from the field of Music, Ddance and Academics participated. Ms.Leela Samson, Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi presided over the first day event and Dr.S. Padma Subramanyam, eminent artist presided over the valediction.

Sahitya Akademi’s Biography of Dr. V. Raghavan under its “Makers of Indian Literature” series authored by Smt. Nandini Ramani and “Audio CD” Kavikokila Manjari- volume 3 of Dr. V. Raghavan’s Sanskrit verses and stotras rendered by Smt. Sumitra Vasudev were released by eminent educationalist Dr. Y. G. Parthasarathy , Dean, PSBB group of institutions, on 22-08-2014 at Sri Dakshinamurthy Hall, Mylapore. First copy of the Biography was received by Dr. S. Padmanaban, H.O.D. Departmenr of Sanskrit, University of Madras, and Dr. P. Ramachandrasekhar, Member, Samskrita Ranga and First copy of the “Audio CD” Kavikokila Manjari- Volume 3 was received by renown violist Sri R.K. Sriramkumar and Carnatic vocalist Dr. S. Sowmya.A vocal recital of select Sanskrit compositions was rendered by Smt.Sumitra Vasudev followed.

In April, 2014, 35th Remembrance Day of Dr.V.Raghavan was held at Ragasudha Hall; the occasion was marked with the release of the scholar’s Collected Writings in Tamil,titled “Tamizh Katturai Kalanjiam” containing a wide range of topics dealt by the author in Sanskrit, aspects of culture,and many more.The book was released by eminent Scholar-Author,Orator, Dr.Prema Nandakumar, and the firast copy was received by Dr.S.Raghuraman, Prof.Tamil,MOP Vaishnav College. SUmitra Vasudev’s recital consisting of Tamil songs of different composers marked the event. Sri.R.Kalidas Trustee of the Centre, honoured the guests and Vote of thanks was proposed by Chitakala Kalidas, granddaughter of Dr.V.Raghavan

Smt. Nandini Ramani , Managing Trustee of the Centre was invited to speak on her teacher T. Balasaraswati for the seminar on “Epic Women”,held under the auspices of Karthik Fine Arts in association with Arangham Trust, held on 22-12-2012 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai.

Lecture by Mrs. Nandini Ramani and Demonstration by Mrs. Sushama Ranganathan followed by a workshop for the students of the institution along with the demonstration by Mrs. Nandini Ramani.
